Store Photography – Primark in Birmingham Reopening Post Lockdowns
Primark asked Piranha Photography to cover the reopening of their flagship store in Birmingham after the November Lockdown and again in April, once the Lockdown at the beginning of 2021 lifted. The photographer was asked the capture the crowds waiting outside the shop before opening time, and also store photography of customers, using the hand sanitiser stations and then choosing and buying items.
The above photographs were taken at the end of the November Lockdown so many shoppers were Christmas shopping. The store was due to open at 7am but such is Primark’s popularity, the queue was over 100m long at about 6.30am! Many were there to get the bargains before leaving for work, but the largest Primark store in the world was very busy indeed by about 7.30am.
Primark had installed hand sanitising stations at the entrance of the store and also where careful to ensure mask wearing by staff and the customers entering the shop. These needed to be photographed being used so that the staff could be assured the customers were all Covid safe as far as possible.
PR Photography for the Press
The photographs taken on the day had to be processed and supplied quickly so that the PR department could supply them to the press. The images were to accompany articles discussing the reopening of the stores.
The photographs below were taken when the 2021 Lockdown lifted –
